I friend from Utah was in town so we went for a morning run on the greenbelt. It was a really nice run, four miles out and then turned around. Everything going smoothly until just before mile 5 I turned my ankle. Hurt like a motha, but I went ahead and kept running. It kind of stopped hurting and we even increased the pace for the last three miles.

Then I got home and iced it and it really started hurting. Now I have a knot on my ankle the size of a tennis ball. Two weeks till Top Of Utah. I guess I'll start tapering now.

Dang. At least you've done all the training already. Not likely to see much gain from training when you're less than 2 wks to race day. I hope you get healthy and are able do a little fine tuning because it sounds like you're primed for a PR. Good luck.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm a nervous wreck right now. It's getting better each day, but who knows where it will be a week from Saturday.

I don't know how you feel about chiropractor's but mine (Dr. Brian Rae, Apex Chiropractor on Warm Springs Ave.) realigned my ankle bone and freed it up to get rid of the accumulated swelling. I'd also look into getting a good massage within the next few days to move some of that scar tissue out of the ankle. Don't wait too long because you'll be sore for a couple of days and then start to feel better. Good luck.

I finally took your advice -- sort of. A guy in my ward does chiro work for the BSU athletic teams. I asked him at church for some advice and he said lets go in a room and take a look. He twisted and pulled on it and told me a few things to try. I'm going to test it tomorrow and see how it feels.

Good. Don't overdo it this week. Be careful stepping off curbs and DO NOT run on trails/unpaved paths. Don't forget the massage either. If you have a medical flex plan it qualifies as a "necessary medical expense."
